Design and Sewing

I usually start a new coat design on a dress form and drape felt to get the right body and sleeve for the silhouette I desire. Felt does not have the same drape and texture as a woven wool.

I then make a pattern, cut out the felt. At this point I may dye the pieces with natural dyes. Or I may cut out felt shapes to felt onto the base felt to make a “printed” felt.

I line all my coats and shawls, hand sewing in the chosen lining fabric.
